Spain defeated Uruguay, but it might have come at a cost.

Substitute Yeremy Pino landed awkwardly when challenging for a ball late in the game and has reportedly injured his shoulder. Furthermore, reports out of Spain are suggesting he was visibly upset at full-time and in quite a bit of pain.

One to watch.

Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has spoken after his side’s 1-0 win over Uruguay.

”We have overcome three incredibly tough matches. We have known how to play a different kind of matches,” de la Fuente said after the match.

“The team always responds. Today we knew how to play a different kind of match.”

More from Uruguay head coach Marcelo Bielsa in his post-match press conference (translated from Spanish to English):

“No one is interested in hearing any explanations, and from my position as the person responsible, that’s completely understandable. If I’m analysing what happened, then I have to include our mistakes, because mistakes are part of football.

“We simply weren’t efficient enough – we didn’t convert enough of the chances we created, and we conceded too many goals.”

Reports of unrest in the Uruguay camp emerged earlier in the week, and with them now being dumped out of the tournament, it’s fairly likely that legendary head coach Marcelo Bielsa won’t be in charge for much longer.

He has spoken after the game and revealed to journalists that experienced goalkeeper Fernando Muslera had asked to be subbed off at half-time following his costly error.

Having won Group H, Spain are now looking likely to face Austria in the Round of 32 – although as we know, things can change very quickly at this World Cup.

If it’s not Austria, then it will be Algeria – those two play each other in the final match of Group J and Spain are drawn against the runner-up in Group J, with Argentina having already won the group.

Brilliant scenes emerging from Houston, where the Cabo Verde players were watching the closing stages of the Uruguay/Spain game after drawing with Saudi Arabia.

Gathered around the assistant coach’s phones, the players erupt after the full-time whistle blew in Guadalajara.

They now get to face Lionel Messi and Argentina in Miami in the Round of 32.

Spain weren’t at their clinical best today – but in truth, they didn’t need to be.

Uruguay finished the game with just one shot on target and even that was a routine save for Simon.

Spain dominated the ball and only had one shot on target themselves, but they never really looked troubled.

Incredibly, Cabo Verde are through to the knockout stages of the FIFA World Cup in their first appearance at the tournament.

Three draws was enough for them to finish second in the group after it finished goalless between them and Saudi Arabia.
