There could be a few tired players for Ecuador today after Mexico fans gathered outside their hotel last night to try and keep them awake.

From midnight until the early hours of the morning, dozens of fans gathered outside the Westin Hotel in Santa Fe, an upscale area on the outskirts of the Mexican capital, using loudspeakers, horns, and motorcycles to disturb the visiting team’s sleep.

The Ecuadorian Football Federation said on Tuesday that it filed a formal complaint with organisers after the incident in Mexico City.

Mbappe has now pulled level with Messi on six goals in this most intriguing battle for the top scorer award.

Sweden coach Graham Potter has been giving his reaction to today’s match in New Jersey.

He started by discussing his emotions after the full-time whistle:

“Mixed, as you can imagine, because we are so disappointed to go out. We weren’t ready to go home. But I am so proud of the team. It is a young team, and it is a bridge too far for us today in terms of the quality of the opponent we are playing against.”

On Sweden’s strong start to the match: “The first period, we were quite stable, and then we stepped back a little bit too much in the second period of the first half. It’s not easy with the quality they have. It is disappointing that we couldn’t hold on and get to 0-0 at half-time.”

France were unstoppable in attack for large parts of that match, with Mbappe and Olise hitting the post before the Real Madrid man finally broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time.

There was no letup in the second half, with Les Bleus continuing to attack with swagger and speed.

France were good value for their win, and probably should have won this one by a bigger margin.

In a star-studded side, there have been two consistent performers for France.

Michael Olise and Kylian Mbappe are playing on another level than everyone else right now.

They both link up brilliantly, they create attacks from all over the park, and they both know where the back of the net is.
