After coming from behind to beat Uzbekistan 3-1 in Atlanta, DR Congo’s reward for being one of the tournament’s eight best third-placed sides is a blockbuster clash against England in Atlanta.

Newcastle United striker Yoane Wissa bagged two goals in the win to set up the game against Group L winners England, who defeated Panama 2-0 earlier in the day, thanks to goals from Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane.

The winner of that game then plays either Mexico or Ecuador in Mexico City.

Portugal will now play Croatia in Toronto in the round of 32 in a game that will see two of the tournament’s old timers do battle on the international stage for the last time.

40-year-old Luka Modric got an assist and played the full 90 minutes in Croatia’s 2-1 win over Ghana, and he’ll no doubt be relishing the chance to go up against his former Real Madrid teammate, 41-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo, when they meet in Canada.

A battle between two of football’s best.

Group K winners Colombia will now face Ghana in Kansas City after the West African nation qualified as one of the eight best third-placed sides in the competition.

Ghana proved to be tough opponents for England in the group stage when they bagged a 0-0 draw, but on this showing, Colombia will fancy their chances of going deep in this competition.

They were very dangerous today.

They’re through to the knockout stages, and that’s the most important thing for Roberto Martinez, but his attacking unit did not click tonight, and that will be a concern.

Ronaldo had just one shot on target, and Pedro Neto struggled to have an impact on the game. Joao Felix looked bright in patches, but Bruno Fernandes just wasn’t able to get time on the ball against an aggressive and energetic Colombian side, who smothered him for a lot of the game.

The heart rate was elevated throughout that contest; that was fun.

Colombia were the better side and will feel as though they should have won it, but Portugal held on, and have goalkeeper Diogo Costa and defender Ruben Dias to thank, in particular.

The result means Colombia have now recorded a goalless draw for the first time in their World Cup history.

Colombia then bring on the excellent Daniel Munoz to huge applause from the Colombians in the crowd. He comes on for Santiago Arias, who has done really well.
